Today I realised how lucky I am to be doing what I love doing. I play with photos, fonts and layout all day. I get paid to look at magazines and to Google stuff.
How many people can say they actually enjoy working?

Besides being able to do a fun job, I also get to do it when I want to. Because I’m a freelancer I don’t work 9-5. (at agencies you work even longer hours!)
I got to see the last Twilight movie in the first week of it showing – DURING THE DAY. (btw this is the first time I’m confessing it!)

Some other perks:

I get to work in my pyjamas.

I get to see my two boys whenever I feel like it. (Other times I lock the door.)

I can do my groceries on a Tuesday at 10 when it’s quiet and there’s parking and the shelves are still full.

I can do bootcamp at 8am and not at 6am. (that’s still night for me!)

I can work at night when it’s quiet and no one can disturb me.

I can have coffee dates with housewives and other flexi-time friends/family.

I only need 2 ‘office’ outfits. (for meetings)

But of course, like most things in life, it’s not always perfect…

a. people think I sit and do nothing all day (my husband doesn’t understand why I didn’t get time for x or y during the day)

b. stress. lots of it. you never know what’s happening the next week and can’t really budget.

c. keeping the balls in the air. Am I a mom, a business woman or a housekeeper? It sometimes feel like I can’t balance it all.

d. chaos…working from home can be chaotic!

But in the end I think there’s more pros than cons. That’s why I’ve been doing it for over 3 years now. And even though I sometimes get stressed or frustrated, I think it’s all still worth it.

And I pray that I’ll be able to keep on doing this for a very long time:)

2012 is finally here.

New year, new beginnings, a fresh start. The last 3 months of a year is usually a blur of frustration, irritation and anticipation for the new year. When everything will be new and shiny. All our problems will disappear overnight…or so we hope. Well, the new year is here, but the same problems are still with us.

So now what?

Well, you can either continue being depressed, irritated and frustrated or you can try and do something about it. It took me (let me check the date…) 11 days to come to this conclusion!
I’ve decided to instead be positive, motivated and challenged. I really believe in ‘mind over matter’ and that you have a choice to make things better. I’m excited to be working again. I’m excited that this will be a GREAT year. A year of new things. (Oh dear, I’m sounding like Oprah!)

So here is my list of resolutions for the Fabulous New Year:

1. Learn a new skill
2. See more shows/concerts
3. Start bootcamp again (when it’s cooler of course;)
4. Stop biting my nails (this will be my biggest challenge!)
5. Stop buying things I don’t need (or just return it the next day)
6. Drink less coffee (this one I’ll break first)

I hope everyone reading this will also be motivated and ready for the new year by now. Facebook is filled with photos and comments of kiddies starting new schools or people starting new jobs. It’s exciting! It’s scary! It’s LIFE.

Good luck to everyone and may this year be the best ever. If not, wait for 2013:)

A mechanic’s car is always broken. Well in my case it’s: ‘the designer’s website/business card/logo/advertisement is never done’!

The truth is that my client’s work always comes first (I need to make a living, right?) so that’s the reason why my own work is never finished. I’ve got folders and folders of semi-finished websites that will never see the light of day…or a computer screen.

I promised myself that October will be the month of focusing on getting my website and business cards out. It’s 24 October today and my deadline is getting VERY tight…

My next step is to get a quote for my business cards from Hot Ink and to get the design 100% done.

But first some tea and sleep!
